Fauna

This section of the collection encompasses domestic animals: including cats, dogs and horses; wild animals and game from around the globe; aquatic life such as fish, mollusc, crustaceans and shells; as well as birds and insects.

Folios include the Pluvinel and Newcastle horses depicting horsemanship; Wilson’s “Illustrations of the American Ornithology” and Albin’s birds; “Dissertatio de Generatione et Metamorphosibus Insectorum Surinamensium” and “De Europische Insecten” by MS Merian displaying the stunning detail of the insect world; and the “Portraits of the Game & Wild Animals of Southern Africa” by Captain Cornwallis Harris display the magnificence of the larger animals.
